Dear Cavalier Family:
Welcome to the 2016-17 school year! Every member of our TEAM will bring individual gifts and talents that will promote academic success for all of our students. We are pleased to have Mr. Mihkiel De’Braux join us as our new grade eight Assistant Principal and our returning Assistant Principal, Mr. Alvin Coleman who will work with our grade seven students. We look forward to a productive school year — one that will bring exciting student engagement. Our doors are always open!
Our vision is to allow students to excel in all of their endeavors by developing an educational environment that will help transform their lives and create a positive impact on the Cavalier community. The W.E. Waters Middle School mission is to engage students in active learning, assist students in the preparation of post-secondary endeavors, and ensure students develop a willingness to explore ideas and become responsible citizens in today’s global society.
This year we will also continue to embrace our Student Belief statement that will promote well-rounded students. During our Morning Announcements, students and staff will be charged with reciting: “I AM EXTRAORDINARY! I AM GREAT! I CAN AND WILL ACHIEVE ANYTHING I SET MY MIND TO! I CAN MOVE MOUNTAINS. I CAN BE WHATEVER I WANT TO BE IF I JUST BELIEVE!”
William E. Waters welcomes many community partners and volunteers this year. Those organizations will work collaboratively with us to ensure our students receive the best possible education and are prepared for the world ahead.
Parents and guardians we must all work collectively this year to ensure our students perform well academically, as well as behaviorally. Please make sure students come to classes prepared, display respect towards others, and ensure they maintain appropriate academic status. We ask that you check their grades regularly and meet with their assigned counselors to keep abreast of how your student (s) is performing throughout the school year.
Please make sure you join us for our monthly Principal’s Coffees. Come and hear about what is happening at WMS and state your concerns. Also take an active role in our Parent Teacher Association (PTA). Membership dues are only $5.00 for the year.
Our goal as teachers, staff, and administrators is to ensure that our students embrace the new school year and strive for academic success. We are looking forward to a fantastic school year at William E. Waters Middle School!
Alice Graham, Principal
